Privacy Policy
Last updated 23 October 2026
Blobs is made by Image Inc. This policy explains what happens to your data when you visit blobs.run and when you use the Blobs app for Mac.
In short
- Blobs does its work on your Mac, with your own Claude or ChatGPT account. We never ask for an API key.
- What you ask your blobs, and what they read to help you, goes to the AI provider whose account you connected.
- Two optional helpers, a quick message sorter and cloud speech recognition, pass through our Blobs service. It passes your request on and does not keep what you said or wrote.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, on the website or in the app.
The website
blobs.run sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. Its fonts and pictures are served from the site itself. The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard request logs (such as your IP address and browser) under its own terms. App updates and downloads are served from blobs.run as well.
Your AI account
You sign in with your own Claude (Anthropic) or ChatGPT (OpenAI) account through that provider’s own sign-in page. Blobs never sees your password. The sign-in is kept on your Mac: for Claude in your Keychain, for ChatGPT in a private file in the app’s folder. Blobs does not read, store or ask for API keys.
What goes to your AI provider
To do what you ask, Blobs sends the AI provider you connected:
- your messages, typed or spoken;
- what your blob remembers about you and its work (its memory and notes);
- the contents of files your blob reads in the folders you connect, and anything you attach;
- a picture of your screen, only when you ask a blob to look (see below).
What Anthropic or OpenAI do with this is set by their own terms and privacy policies, and the settings of your account with them. Blobs turns off the optional usage reporting of both engines.
The message sorter
To answer simple requests faster, Blobs can first ask a quick sorter how to handle a message: open an app, answer quickly or work on it properly. The sorter is run by TypeSafe and reached through the Blobs service. It receives the message you sent, the headings of what your blob knows (memory section titles, recent task titles and the names of its folders) and the names of apps installed on your Mac. It never receives your files, the text of your memory or attachments; a message with an attachment is not sorted at all. The sorter is on by default, and you can turn it off in Settings ▸ Privacy.
Speech recognition
When you talk to a blob, your voice is turned into text. With Cloud (the default), the sound of your voice while you hold or tap the mic, a short list of app and site names that help recognition and your chosen language go through the Blobs service to xAI, and the text comes back. With On this Mac (Settings ▸ Voice), recognition happens on your Mac and your voice never leaves it. Blobs does not save recordings.
Looking at your screen
A blob looks at your screen only when you ask it to, never on its own or on a timer, and only with the Screen Recording permission you grant. Each look is a single picture of the front window or the whole screen, never of Blobs’ own windows. The picture file is deleted from your Mac when the request ends, but the picture is sent to your AI provider and stays in that conversation, in its history on your Mac and with the provider under its terms.
Connectors
If you add an optional connector, for example to make images with fal.ai, the requests you send through it go to that service under its terms. Connectors are off until you add and approve them.
What the Blobs service keeps
The Blobs service (api.blobs.run) does not store or log the content of what you say or write. It keeps:
- An install token. On first use the app picks a random install number and receives a signed token for it, stored in your Keychain. It says nothing about you; it lets the service count requests per install.
- Counters. Requests per install and per network address, per minute and per day, and seconds of speech per day. Install numbers and addresses are kept only in a scrambled form that cannot be turned back into them, and the counters expire within two days.
- Operational logs with the route, the status, the time taken and sizes, but no content, no install number and no address. Our hosting provider, Vercel, keeps its own request logs under its terms.
If the service is unavailable, Blobs keeps working without it: messages go the usual way and speech is recognised on your Mac.
What stays on your Mac
Your blobs, their memory and notes, their tasks and the cards they showed you (kept 90 days) live in ~/Library/Application Support/Blobs. Files they make go to ~/Blobs or the folders you choose. Conversation histories are kept on your Mac by the Claude and ChatGPT engines. Removing a blob, deleting these folders or deleting the app removes them from your Mac; copies your AI provider holds are managed in your account with that provider.
Updates
Every few hours the app checks blobs.run for a new version. The check is a normal web request that includes the app’s version; it sends no profile of your Mac.
Permissions
Blobs asks macOS for permission before it uses your microphone and speech recognition, records your screen, controls other apps on your behalf (Automation) or opens the folders you connect. You can change these at any time in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security.
Children
Blobs is not meant for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We will update this policy when what Blobs does with your data changes, and change the date at the top. For important changes we will let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
